Amanda Henniges

 

            Amanda, daughter of Herman and Lena Marsch Nuss, was born July 2, 1915, in the Buck Creek area of rural Bremer County, Iowa. She was baptized July 18, 1915 and confirmed March 24, 1929, at St. John Lutheran Church, Buck Creek. She received her education in the Sumner Schools.
            On October 10, 1935, she was united in marriage with Erwin F. Henniges at St. John Lutheran Church, Buck Creek. After farming for a number of years, Amanda and her husband moved into Sumner where she worked for Dr. Murphy, Dr. Whitmire, Sumner Pack, Sumner Produce, and Community Memorial Hospital. In retirement Amanda and her husband wintered in the south for 20 years and also enjoyed traveling in other parts of the country.
            Amanda entered the Hillcrest Home in Sumner in September of this year. Her death occurred there from natural causes on Thursday, October 22, 2009. She was 94 years old and a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner.
            She is survived by one sister, Olinda Aschbrenner of Waverly; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Lee of Sumner; and several nieces and nephews.
      Amanda was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin in 2000; one son, Roger in 1966; and a special friend, Judy Harp.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 26, 2009, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. William Runaas, Jr. and Intern Jealaine Marple officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, October 25, 2009, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Monday. Interment will in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Sumner.
