Alvira Violet Hirsch, daughter of John and Lillie Vuchow Dobbe, was born September 24, 1915, at Spencer, Wisconsin. She was raised in Charles City and graduated from Charles City High School in 1935.

            She was united in marriage with Herman Hirsch in 1946 at Cedar Falls, and in 1948, the couple began farming in the Sumner area. In 1964, they moved into town and Alvira started working at the Hillcrest Home. She retired in 1985.

            A resident of the Hillcrest Home since January of 2008, Alvira’s death occurred there on Wednesday, June 29, 2011. She was 95 years old.

            She is survived by nieces and nephews, Sharon (Benny) Adamson of Cedar Falls, Carole Lien of Davenport, Florida, Tom Debner of Cedar Rapids, and Bob (Betty Ann) Debner of Allen, Texas.

            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1989, and a sister, Fern Debner in 2009.

          Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Chapel in Sumner with Larry Crow officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday, July 4, 2011, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the funeral home on Tuesday. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.
