Stanley F. Buhrow

 

Stanley Friederich Wilhelm Frank Buhrow, the son of Henry F. and Ida (Bergmann) Buhrow, was born March 4, 1919 on a farm in Douglas Township, Bremer County, Iowa.  He was baptized March 30, 1919 and confirmed April 9, 1933 at St. John’s Evangelical Church (Siegel).  He attended country school in Douglas Township.  Stanley was united in marriage with Gertrude Schweer on May 26, 1940 at St. John’s Lutheran Church (Crane Creek).  Stanley and Gertrude farmed near Tripoli.  Stanley also tiled for many years and he worked at Clay Equipment for fourteen years.  Stanley retired from farming in 1986.

Stanley’s death occurred Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, from natural causes.  He was ninety years old.  Stanley was an active church member at St. John’s United Church of Christ (Siegel) and later at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli.  He served on church council for both churches and played dartball for the St. John’s U.C.C. (Siegel) team.  He enjoyed woodworking, dancing, farming, and playing 500 and pinochle with friends.

Stanley is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Gertrude, of Tripoli; two children, Darlyce Steere of Greene, Iowa; and Kenneth J. (Darlys) Buhrow of Tripoli; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one brother, George Buhrow of Frederika, Iowa; one sister, Arlene Buchholz of Tripoli; and many nieces and nephews.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents and one son-in-law, Earl Steere.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Fenruary 13, 2010, at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli with Rev. Marilyn Sargent officiating. Internment will be held at Faith United Church of Christ Cemetery in Tripoli.  Friends may call from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 12, 2010, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday.
