Carrie Creszenz Gaede, daughter of John A. and Creszenz “Tracy” Bender Price, was born February 14, 1932, at Plato, Missouri. She attended country school until 8th grade and graduated from Tripoli High School in 1951. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner on November 21, 1954.
On April 18, 1954, she was united in marriage with Walter H. Gaede at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner by Rev. Nagler. The couple farmed from 1954 to 1968 in the Sumner area. Carrie also helped her husband as caretakers of St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Sumner for many years, and did office cleaning at Sumner City Hall and cooking at Meadowbrook Country Club.
Carrie’s death occurred at her home in Sumner on Monday, November 8, 2010, from natural causes. She was 78 years old.
She is survived by three children, Diana (Larry) Selck, William Gaede, Sr., and Wanda Conway, all of Sumner; seven grandchildren, Misty (Jim) Heyer, Adam Selck, Matthew Gaede, Christopher Conway, Emily Tieskotter, Michaela Conway, and William Gaede, Jr.; one sister, Agnes Parkinson of Oelwein; and four brothers, Virgil Price of Georgia, Marvin Price of Tripoli, Alvin Price of Fairbank, and David Price of Tripoli.
Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, who died August 23, 2000; her parents; one brother, Andrew; and one sister, Frances.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 13, 2010, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. William Runaas, Jr. officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Friday, November 12, 2010, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Sumner. The family suggests that memorials may be made in Carrie’s name to St. John Lutheran Church or Heart of Iowa Hospice, both in Sumner, American Cancer Society, or any charity of the donor’s choosing.
