Mabel E. Chase

            Mabel Evelyn, the daughter of William and Beryl (Shepard) Greathead, was born March 26, 1918 in rural Fayette, Iowa.  She attended school in Fayette for eleven years and graduated with her G.E.D. much later.  Mabel was united in marriage with Alva Chase on March 21, 1935 in Galena, Illinois.  Together they had three children, Charles, Patricia, and William.

            Mabel’s death occurred Friday, February 27, 2009 at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa, after a short illness.  She was ninety years old.  Mabel was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Fayette, Iowa.  She belonged to the United Methodist Women, the Home Benefit Club, various card clubs, and donated her time to serve her church and community.  Mabel enjoyed cooking, reading, traveling, gardening, knitting, crocheting, sewing, playing cards, camping, picnics, spending time with family and friends, and living in Fayette.

            Mabel is survived by one son, Charles (Judy) Chase of Ft. Myers, Florida; two daughters-in-law, Molly Chase of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Phyllis Chase of Orlando, Florida; one son-in-law, Maynard Morine of Lester Prairie, Minnesota; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Alva; one son, William Chase; one daughter, Patricia Morine; one great grandson, Matthew Heller; her parents; one brother, William Greathead; and one sister, Blanche Ashby.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, Fayette, Iowa conducted by Rev. Jason Princer. Inurnment will be at Grandview Cemetery, Fayette. There will be no visitation, but friends may register at the church for one preceding services on Wednesday.
