Deborah Lea Conrad, daughter of Lloyd and Wrightabelle Richeson Grossman, was born January 4, 1953, at Marshalltown, Iowa. She received her education in the Marshalltown Schools, graduating in 1971.
On November 10, 1973, she was united in marriage with Dean Conrad at the First Presbyterian Church in Conrad, Iowa. Deb had worked in the purchasing department at Iowa State University in Ames, was a library assistant at Remsen Union Elementary School, and was a pre-school teacher at Pleasant Street Pre-school in Sumner. She later started a jewel making business in Sumner.
Deb’s death occurred from cancer on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at her home in Sumner. She was 56 years old and a member of the United Methodist Church in Sumner. She had served as president of the Culture Club in Sumner, and was a member of the Iowa State Archery Association, the National Field Archery Association, the Single Action Shooting Society, and the Red Hat Society.
In addition to her husband, Dean of Sumner, she is survived by one son, Wyatt (fiancé, Jovanna Natzu) Conrad of Buffalo Grove, Illinois; two daughters, Emily (and her partner, Ted Adams) Conrad of, Waterloo and Cody Conrad of Hiawatha, Iowa; her parents, Lloyd and Wrightabelle Grossman of Marshalltown; two brothers, Mark (Vicky) Grossman and Eric Grossman, both of Marshalltown; two nephews, Kyle and Ryan Grossman; and a brother-in-law, John W Conrad, III of South Beach, Florida.
She was preceded by her paternal and maternal grandparents.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Sumner with Rev. Shirley Hoffman Will officiating. Visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church in Sumner from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2009. Committal services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Conrad Cemetery in Conrad, Iowa. Memorial donations in Deb’s name may be made to the Sumner Public Library.
