Darlene R. Baker

            Darlene Ruby Baker, the daughter of William and Rosa (Doerr) Windsheimer was born November 4, 1928 in Sidney, Nebraska.  She was baptized December 9, 1928 and confirmed June 14, 1942 at Weyerts Lutheran Church, rural Lodgepole, Nebraska.  Darlene graduated from Gurley High School, Gurley, Nebraska in 1946.  Darlene was a homemaker and she worked at the Tripoli Public Library for over twenty years, retiring in January of 2005.

            Darlene’s death occurred Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa, after a short illness.  She was eighty-two years old.    Darlene was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli.   Darlene enjoyed reading, gardening, cross stitch and crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

            Darlene is survived by six children, Carolyn (Darren) Haley of Tripoli, Iowa; Eleanor (Stephen) Richardson of Ely, Iowa; Darrell Baker of Bluffton, Iowa; Marlene (Chris) Ostby of Cypress, Texas; Marvin Baker of Tripoli, Iowa; and Merry (Norman) Andre of Aurora, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Dawn (Ben) Kent; Chloe, Jake, and Grace Haley; Olivia and Jeremy Andre; and Katelyn and Ashley Ostby; and two great grandsons, Noah and Jonathan Kent.

            Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Leland Windsheimer.

            Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 17, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli with Rev. Miles Renaas officiating. Burial will be held at Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Tripoli. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 16, 2011, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour before services at the church on Monday.
