Paul A. Durey

 

Paul Arthur Durey, son of Floyd A. and Cora E. Rolfe Durey, was born October 14, 1925, at Coffins Grove Township, Delaware County, Iowa. He attended Fayette High School and later received his G.E.D. in 1981.
            Paul served with the U.S. Army in 1951. He later worked as a farm hand and at various restaurants all across the country. Most recently he has worked at Boike’s Trailside Inn in Fayette. He had also worked at the Union Gospel Mission in Yakima, Washington.
            A resident of Fayette for the past three years, his death occurred at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, following a sudden illness. He was 83 years old and was an avid ham radio operator and enjoyed riding his bicycle. At the time of his death he was enrolled in an online art class.
            He is survived by two brothers, Daren (Eva) Durey of Frederickstown, Missouri and George (Lenore) Durey of Manchester, Iowa; five sisters, Arlene Noble of Lancaster, California, Eloise Kaltenbach of Hazelton, Iowa, Lorna (Vaylard) Zupke of Randalia, Shirley Thrall of Calimesa, California, and JoAnn (Allen) Strawn of Cedar Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Martha Durey of Manchester, Iowa and Rose Durey of Roc Island, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
            He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lucius, Forrest, Howard, and Dale; and four sisters, Charlotte Fawcett, Marian Stewart, Margaret Downing, and Carol Vivian Durey.
 
            Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 22, 2009, at the Fayette Community Church with Rev. Carl Tenney officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette. Memorials may be made in his name to the Union Gospel Mission, P.O. Box 565, Yakima, Washington 98907-0565.
