Doris C. Wegner, daughter of John A. and Elizabeth Shuhert Bahl, was born November 17, 1915, between Randalia and Fayette in rural Fayette County, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Francis Catholic Church in Fayette and confirmed at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union. She graduated from Randalia High School in 1934, and received her C.N.A. many years later from Hawkeye Tech in 1967.
On June 24, 1937, she was united in marriage with Julius E. Wegner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. A longtime resident of Fayette and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Doris worked as a nurse’s aid for several years, some of which were at Prairie View. She retired in 1977. Mr. Wegner’s death occurred on December 12, 1984, and Doris continued to make her home in Fayette until her later years when she lived at Arlington Place in Oelwein, Prairie Hills in Independence, and most recently, West Village Care Center in Independence. Her death occurred there on Friday, June 24, 2011. She was ninety-five years old.
She is survived by two sons, Larry (Helene) Wegner of Spencer, Iowa and LaVern (Judy) Wegner of Mansfield, Texas; five grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six sisters.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fayette with Rev. Dale Rausch officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church on Tuesday. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family suggests that friends may, if they wish, make memorial contributions to a hospice or any charity of their choice. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette is in charge of arrangements.
