Floyd Frank Robertson, son of LeRoy and Martha Pagel Roberston, was born June 27, 1912, in Banks Township of rural Fayette County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Union Evangelical Church of rural Sumner. He received his education in the Banks Township rural school and graduated from Sumner High School in 1931. He later attended Iowa State University in Ames.
On June 18, 1940, he was united in marriage with Maxine Dietel at her parent’s home, near Sumner.
Floyd was the superintendant of the Sumner Municipal Light Plant for many years before retiring in 1980. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Sumner where he served in various church offices. He was a longtime member of the Sumner Community Schools board of directors, having served as president, and also served on the founding boards of the Hillcrest Home and Sumner Senior Housing Corporation.
A resident of the Hillcrest Home Apartments and most recently, the Nursing Home, his death occurred on Friday, June 26, 2009, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner from complications of pneumonia.
He is survived by one son, Alan (Debbie) Robertson of Humble, Texas; one daughter, Elaine (Ronnie) Koepke of Waverly; two grandsons, Mark Koepke and Rick Koepke; three step grandchildren, Amy Moss, Jason Pish, and Kristin McIntyre; four great grandchildren, Shannon, Natalie, Luke, and Cody Koepke; and two step great grandchildren, Taylor McIntyre and Kaleb Pish.
Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine in 2007; one great granddaughter, Megan Koepke, also in 2007; his parents; and one brother, Milton Robertson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Sumner with Rev. Amy Strydom officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Grove Cemetery at Sumner. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Monday.
