Gertrude A. Davis

            Gertrude Alice Davis, daughter of Otto and Bertha Ponsar Miehe, was born November 20, 1916, near Maynard, Iowa. She graduated from Maynard High School in 1933.

            On March 26, 1938, she was united in marriage with James A. Davis at Fayette, Iowa. She and her husband farmed in the Fayette and Maynard areas until they retired from farming and moved to Randalia. Gertrude then worked for a number of years at Upper Iowa University, and helped with the Green Thumb Program in Fayette.

            A resident of Maple Crest Manor Care Center in Fayette since September of 2008, her death occurred there on Saturday morning, April 2, 2011. She was 94 years old.

            Gertrude is survived by two sons, James Davis of Oelwein and Duane (Ruby) Davis of Fallon, Nevada; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and one sister, Dione (Roy) Truog of Oelwein.

            She was preceded in death by her husband, James, who died October 30, 1981; her parents; and two sisters, Arlene Simpson and Leona Hummel.

            Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Chapel in Fayette with Rev. Jason Princer officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 4, 2011, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette and for one hour preceding services at the chapel on Tuesday. Interment will be at Long Grove Cemetery in Maynard.

Gertie was so nice to my parents "Hod" and Esther Johnson, when she lived near them a Homestead Park in Fayette. I always enjoyed visiting with her when I was home. My sincere sympathy to her family. Ellen Johnson
