Gladys M. Rieck

           Gladys Marie Rieck, daughter of Carl and Elsie Nichols Moehlis, was born February 3, 1920, in the Buck Creek area near Sumner. She was baptized May 21, 1920, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner and confirmed on March 25, 1934 at St. John Lutheran Church, Buck Creek.

           On November 24, 1938, she was united in marriage with Arnold at St. John Lutheran Church, Buck Creek. She and her husband farmed together in the Denver area for two years, then moved to the Fairbank and Oran area for 6 years and was a member of Grove Hill Church at that time. In 1947, they moved to a farm near Sumner and joined St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. Arnold’s death occurred on October 18, 2001.

          A resident of the Hillcrest Home, Gladys’ death occurred there on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, from natural causes. She was 90 years old.

          She is survived by one son, Daryl Rieck of Sumner; two daughters, Roberta (Bill) Buhr and Carolyn (Steve) Willson, all of St. Charles, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Troy (Lauri) Buhr, Jeff (Nissa) Rieck, Jeremy (Amy) Rieck, Tracy (Shellie) Meyer, Pat Meyer, and Julie (Steve) Colvin; twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lucile Judisch of Oelwein.

          In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son-in-law, Bill Meyer; one daughter-in-law, Norma Rieck; and one brother, Lester Moehlis.

          Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. William Runaas, Jr. and Rev. Dayna Winke officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2010, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Sumner.
