Helen L. Griesert

         

          Helen Louise Griesert, daughter of Emil R. and Elsie Immermann Griesert, was born March 30, 1925, at Fredericksburg, Iowa. She was baptized April 19, 1925, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg by Pastor O.C. Durr and confirmed April 2, 1939, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg by Rev. Harold Wunderlich. She attended St. Paul’sLutheran Parochial School and graduated from Fredericksburg High School on May 24, 1943.

          Helen was an employee of the Federal Government for thirty-nine and a half years, living in Washington, D.C., Clarion, Iowa and Manchester, Iowa. She retired in 1986. A resident of the Hillcrest Home since November of 2005, Helen’s death occurred there on Sunday, January 16, 2011. She was eighty-five years old and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner.

          She is survived by one sister-in-law, Martha Griesert of Sumner, and several nieces and nephews.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Martin “Mike”, and Robert; and one sister, Marie, who died in infancy.

          Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 20, 2011, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. George Volkert officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.

To Helen's family: Helen and I worked together in Manchester for several years prior to her retirement. She was the most devoted and hardest working person I have ever met. She helped me learn the ropes 27 years ago and evidently did a good job as I am still with the agency
