Iona Frances (Loftsgard) Patrick, daughter of Mellien and Stella (Erickson) Loftsgard, was born November 18, 1926, at home in Gunder, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Marion Lutheran Church of Gunder. She graduated from Clermont High School in 1946.
On October 17, 1948, she was united in marriage with Carl Albert Patrick. In addition to raising their six children, Iona worked at the Fayette County Care Facility during the 1970’s. She and her late husband enjoyed their retirement years and being with their children and grandchildren.
A resident of Waterloo for the past few years, her death occurred on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Allen Memorial Hospital from natural causes. She was 83 years old.
Iona is survived by six children, Carolyn Patrick of Waterloo, Jim Patrick of Hawkeye, Linda (Dennis) Schroeder of Sumner, and Cynthia (Rodney) Benson, Julie Patrick, and Marcia (David) Knipp, all of Waterloo; eight grandchildren, Misty (Jamie) McFarlin, Cassie Patrick, Dustin Patrick, April (Kyle) Davidson, Michal (Alyson) Kresser, Jeromie (Melinda) Schroeder, Eric Schroeder, and Greg Lewis; four great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; and one brother, Stanley Loftsgard of Richland, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, who died July 22, 2006; her parents; one brother, Clemens Loftsgard; and a sister-i-law, Almeta Loftsgard.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. William Horn officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 28, 2010, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Hawkeye Cemetery.
