Karlton L. "Karly" House

            Karlton Lincoln “Karly” House was born on February 12, 1927 in Fayette County, Iowa.  He was the son of Guy Lester and Nora Elizabeth (Miller) House.  Karly worked as a cylinder press operator at the Fayette County Union before serving in the Korean War with the U.S. Army.  After the war, Karly and his brother Robert owned and trained thoroughbred horses.  Later in his life, Karly was a part-owner of a tavern in Hawkeye, Iowa.

            Karly’s death occurred Wednesday night, July 21, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in West Union, Iowa.  He was eighty-three years old.  Karly enjoyed fishing and he loved cats.

            Karly is survived by one sister, Marilyn Klatt of West Union, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

            Karly was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, Ronald, Guy “Olie”, Averill “Paddie”, George, Robert, Darrell, Donald, and Richard House; and three sisters, Lora House, Valeria Gerholdt, and Kathryn Berken.

           Graveside Inurnment Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at the Hawkeye Cemetery in Hawkeye. Pastor Judy Alford will be the officiant.   Arnold-Rogers American Legion Post #312 will be conducting military rites.
