Robert W. Lamphier, 62, of Fayette, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at his home, after a short illness. He was born in Fayette on March 14, 1946, the son of Robert A. and Lucy (Kuhens) Lamphier. He was united in marriage with Karen Hannan on June 12, 1965 at Sacred Heart Church in Oelwein.
Bob graduated from Fayette High School in 1964. He retired from John Deere in March of 1996 after thirty years of employment. He was a member of the U.A.W. 838. He served his community in many ways, including the Fayette and North Fayette school boards. He was a Fayette City Council member for thirteen years, from 1996 until shortly before his death. Bob enjoyed carpentry work, reading, and spending time with his family.
Bob is survived by his wife, Karen, of Fayette; two daughters, Denise Lamphier (Charlie Clements) of Grinnell, Iowa; and Janel (Mark) Lamphier Meier of Perry, Iowa; an honorary son, Bill Clark of Fayette; four grandchildren, Jordan, Bryce, Margaret, and Emory; seventeen honorary grandchildren; a brother, Tom Lamphier of Alexis, Illinois; two sisters, Linda Post and Cindy Lamphier, both of Brooklyn Park, Minneosta; twenty-eight nieces and nephews; five aunts, Carol (Steve) Niles; Mabel (Frank) Garcia; Becky (Bruce) Ingersoll; Bonnie Joyce Kline; and Virginia Lamphier; one uncle, Harry (Lavonne) Lamphier; ten sisters-in-law, Mildred Smith of Waterloo, Iowa; Elaine Britten of New Auburn, Wisconsin; Jan Rhoades of Maynard; Virginia Hannan of Denver, Iowa; Debbie Hannan of Fairbank, Iowa; and Helen Hannan, Kay Bouck, Linda Hannan, Marge Miller, and Pat Hannan, all of Oelwein.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal and paternal grandparents; a nephew; two uncles; two aunts; and five brothers-in-law.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the Fayette Community Church, Fayette, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Carl Tenney. The family will greet friends and family at a visitation from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 9, 2009 at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette and for one hour preceding services at the church on Tuesday.
