Loren Bergmann, son of Fred W. and Dora Hirsch Bergmann, was born June 19, 1920, in Douglas Township of rural Bremer County, Iowa. He was baptized in July of 1920, by Rev. Melchert and later confirmed by Rev. Gerlach at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-Siegel. He graduated from Frederika High School in 1939, and later served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
On October 23, 1945, he was united in marriage with Ruth Berlin at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli. Loren farmed his entire life in the Tripoli area prior to retiring in 1980.
A resident of the Tripoli Nursing Home, his death occurred there on Saturday, May 15, 2010, following a lengthy illness. He was 89 years old and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli. He was also a member of Brandenburg-Krueger V.F.W. Post #4013, of Tripoli, Maple Hills Country Club, and enjoyed bowling in leagues in Tripoli and Waterloo.
In addition to his wife, Ruth of Tripoli, he is survived by one daughter, Lois Paulsen and her special friend, Randy Williams of Grundy Center; one son, Lloyd (Cheryl) Bergmann of Blue Grass, Iowa; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Alveda Thurm of Readlyn, and Janola Rueckert of Columbus Junction.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, his twin brother, Lyle and Lester.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli with Rev. Miles Renaas officiating. Burial will be at Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Tripoli with military rites by Brandenburg-Krueger V.F.W. Post #4013 of Tripoli. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour preceding services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund, the Tripoli Nursing Home, or Cedar Valley Hospice.
