Gladys Winnifred, the daughter of Earnie and Winnifred (Kuhens) Earle, was born September 27, 1919 near Randalia, Iowa. She graduated from Randalia High School in 1937 and later attended business school. Gladys was confirmed as an adult, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette in 1962. Gladys was united in marriage with Lawrence Holtzman. Lawrence died in France during World War II. Gladys was then united in marriage with Alvin Lubbert on March 10, 1948 in Waterloo, Iowa. Alvin preceded her in death on February 23, 1985. Gladys owned and operated Gladys’ Truck Stop in Fayette for many years. She then worked at Lucy’s Garden of Eat’n in Fayette for fifteen years. She also cleaned houses.
Gladys’ death occurred Monday, May 17, 2010 at her niece’s house in Waterloo, Iowa, from natural causes. She was ninety years old. While living in Fayette, Gladys was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was active with the church women. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, crocheting, and latch hook pillows.
Gladys is survived by two nieces, Barbara (Joe) Yates of Waterloo, Iowa; and Dixie (Ray) Nielsen of Waterloo, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her two husbands; one son, Michael Dean Lubbert, who died in infancy; her parents; five brothers; and four sisters.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 21, 2010, at Grandview Cemetery in Fayette. There will be no visitation.
