Leslie George West was born July 6, 1924, near Fredericksburg, Iowa to Daniel E. and Leona Rasmussen West, and passed on peacefully at his home in Mission, Texas of May 10, 2011, at the age of 86.

            Les spent most of his adult working life in farming and sales in the Midwest. He was the father of eight children from two families. He was married to Glee Armstrong and fathered five children: Mary Ann (Gary) Anderson of Mason City, Iowa, Jane (Marshall) Archibeque of Delta, Colorado, who died in 2005, Leslie (Joe & Ruth) West of New Waverly, Texas, Michael (Theresa) West of New Waverly, Texas, and Lila (Lance) McCracken of Lancaster, Wisconsin.

           On December 17, 1960, Les married Doris Jane Buenzow and they recently celebrated their 50^th anniversary in the company of friends and their three sons: James West of Harvard, Illinois, David (Jill) West of North Liberty, Iowa, and John (Hope Woods) West of Randalia, Iowa. Les was a grandfather to twenty-one and had numerous great grandchildren.

           During his years, Les enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his vegetable garden. His experience and advice will be missed.

           Les was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Jane, and a sister, Wanda. He is survived by his wife, Doris West and a sister, Dorothy Buege.

           Graveside committal services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 3, 2011, at the Alpha Cemetery. Following the committal service, a celebration of life gathering will be held at the Hawkeye Community Hall, 102 E. Main St., Hawkeye, Iowa. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner is assisting the family.
