Marcille J. Fox

         Marcille Janet Fox, daughter of Werner and Lillian Willbrandt Rewoldt, was born January 1, 1922, in Bremer County, Iowa. She graduated in 1940 from Frederika High School.

         She was united in marriage with Leo Buckendahl on May 2, 1942, at St. John Lutheran Church-Boyd. She and her husband farmed in Bremer and Fayette Counties for many years, and Marcille also worked as a secretary at Overton Chemical Co. in Sumner. Leo’s death occurred on November 6, 1960.

         On April 23, 1964, Marcille was married to Gerald Fox at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church-Richfield. Mr. Fox died November 7, 1980.

A lifetime resident of Fayette and Bremer Counties Marcille passed away at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner on Thursday, October 28, 2010, from complications of lung cancer. She was 88 years old and a longtime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church-Richfield. She had been active with the ladies group at church and also with Aid Association for Lutherans. She was also a member with Pheasants Forever of Fayette County.

         Marcille is survived by four sons, Michael “Leo” (Dorothy) Buckendahl of Sumner, Douglas (Lou) Buckendahl of Kalama, Washington , Dennis (Mary) Buckendahl of New Hampton, and Greg (Bonnie) Buckendahl of Sumner; a step-daughter, Patricia (Marion) Bush of Fredericksburg; one step-son, Gerry (Loris) Fox of Medford, Wisconsin; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; seventeen step great-grandchildren; one sister, Arlene Moeller of Cloverdale, California; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Rewoldt of Cedar Falls; and one brother-in-law, Walter Haynes of Cresco.

         In addition to her two husbands, Marcille was preceded in death by a step daughter, Rosemary Buckendahl; two brothers, Leo and Elston Rewoldt; one sister, Ruth Haynes; and one step great-grandson, Chad Bush.

        Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. Harold Peterson of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church-Richfield officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 1, 2010, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at Richfield Cemetery in Rural Sumner. The family suggests that memorials may be made in Marcille’s name to either Palmer Heart of Iowa Hospice, 201 W. First Street, Sumner, IA 50674, or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church-Richfield.

We regret that we are not able to be there today (Tuesday) but just heard yesterday of Marcille's death. My work won't allow me to leave on such short notice. My sister is now at peace. She fought a long battle with cancer and never once complained; though we talked on the phone often during those years. I am so grateful that I spent quality time with not only Marcille but also Ruth in August, not knowing at that time, that it would be our last visit. Now I am the surviving member of our family, and it makes me feel sad.
