Joyce Emma, the daughter of Arthur and Bernadette (Walsh) Ideker, was born August 23, 1925 in Balaton, Minnesota. She attended country school near Hinton and public school in Lawler, graduating in 1943. She also graduated from secretarial school in Waterloo. Joyce was united in marriage with Rex “Stub” Junior Niles on June 15, 1944 at TrinityLutheranChurch in New Hampton. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2006. Joyce and her family lived north of Fayette for many years, before moving to their present home near Wadena in 1975.
Joyce’s death occurred Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, after a short illness. She was eighty-three years old. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joyce spent many hours gardening and canning food for her family. She was a 4H leader for many years. Her favorite pastimes were sewing, quilting, and embroidery.
Joyce is survived by two daughters, Linda (Leonard) Zody of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, and Janet (Bruce) Orr of Randalia three sons, Steven (Carol) Niles of Fayette, James (Myrna) Niles of Sumner, and Paul Niles of Wadena;; sixteen grandchildren; three step grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; and a sister, Alyce Beene of Fairfax, Virginia.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband; one great granddaughter, Alisha Sylva; one great grandson, Adan Bettmeng; her parents; and a sister, Audrey Harmes. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the FayetteCommunityChurch, Fayette, Iowa conducted by Rev. Carl Tenney. Interment will be at BethelCemetery, rural Hawkeye, Iowa. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette and at the church for one hour preceding services on Wednesday.
