Ronald R. "Doc" Copp

Ronald Ray “Doc” Copp, the son of Earl and Bernice (Woodson) Copp was born September 23, 1925 in Waucoma, Iowa.  He was baptized and confirmed in 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, Iowa.  He attended rural school and Hawkeye High School.  Ron was united in marriage with Yvonne Weston on August 17, 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye.  The couple farmed in the Fayette and Hawkeye areas until 2004, when they moved to West Union, Iowa.

Ron’s death occurred Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, after complications from cancer.  He was eighty-five years old.  Ron was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye.  He enjoyed playing cards and going to the local mealsite.  Ron had a good sense of humor and was well known for his good natured “teasing” of family and friends.

Ron is survived by his wife, Yvonne, of West Union, Iowa; two grandchildren, Tony (Samantha) Langerman of Roland, Iowa; and Erin (Greg) Opgenorth of Madison, Wisconsin; a step great grandchild, Cassie Weber; one sister, LaVera Dralle of Allison, Iowa; and one brother, Larry Copp of Hawkeye, Iowa;

Ron was preceded in death by two daughters, DeLois Ann Stepan, who died in March of 1985; and Diane Rae Langerman, who died in September of 1986; one granddaughter, Emily Diane Stepan, who died in March of 1985; his parents; three brothers, Arlo, Russell, and Dale Copp; and one sister, June Schultz.   

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 13, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. William Horn officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 12, 2010, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at the Hawkeye Cemetery in Hawkeye. The family suggests that memorials may be made in her name to Trinity Lutheran Ewalu Campership.

Yvonne, My sister-in-law, Danette Ravn, just informed me of Ron's death just as his funeral is set to begin. We were soooo fortunate to have known you both and the memories of the Copp reunions are still very dear to us. The last I saw you both was when Sharon and I were at the cancer treatment center. We ALWAYS admired your pleasantness, and greatly enjoyed your friendship. ~Dale~
