Roger R. "Tubby" Ungerer

        Roger Raymond, the son of Fred and Mildred (Schlessner) Ungerer, was born July 6, 1945 in West Union, Iowa.  He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, Iowa.  He graduated from North High School in West Union and Hawkeye Technical College in Waterloo, Iowa.  Roger was united in marriage with Susan Albers on September 20, 2003 at the gazebo in the Hawkeye City Park.  Tubby farmed the family farm near Hawkeye.

            Tubby’s death occurred Friday, September 24, 2010 at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner, Iowa after a sudden illness.  He was sixty-five years old.  Tubby was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a Windsor Township Trustee.  He enjoyed farming, golfing, welding, playing cards, Case-I.H. tractors, and watching sports.

            Tubby is survived by his wife, Sue, of Hawkeye; four children, Jenny (Colton) Eickhoff of Hawkeye; Jason (Whitley) Cannon of Hawkeye; Missy (Mark) Cannon of Hawkeye; and Megan Cannon of Waukon, Iowa; six grandchildren, Cole, Carter, Jordan, and Jamison Cannon; Stryker Long, and Piper Cannon; one brother, Russell Ungerer of Fayette, Iowa; three nieces, Connie (John) Galloway of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Nancy (Mark) Creery of Hawkeye; and Shirley Ungerer of Fayette; and four great nieces and nephews.

            Tubby was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews, Randy and Gary Ungerer. 

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. William Horn officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be at the Hawkeye Cemetery in Hawkeye

Roger and I were in the same grade in school - good old North High. But through the years, Roger became close friends with my brothers and he was always like part of the family. He will be missed.
