Martha M. Schnadt
            Martha Marie Schnadt, the daughter of William and Sophia (Doepke) Knief, was born August 24, 1918, at home near Klinger, Bremer County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Klinger. She also attended Immanuel Parochial School.
            On May 2, 1940, Martha was united in marriage with Leonard W. Schnadt at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Westgate. Martha and Leonard farmed in the Sumner area all their life, until moving into Sumner in 1980. Prior to her marriage, Martha worked at Harry Kehe’s restaurant in Denver, Iowa.
            A resident of the Hillcrest Home since April of 2004, her death occurred there on Friday, February 27, 2009, following a short illness. She was ninety years old and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church (Buck Creek) where she was active in the St. John WELCA over the years. Martha enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, gardening, canning, traveling, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends, especially family birthday parties.   
Martha is survived by three children, Karen (Roger) Winter of Waucoma, Dennis (Deb) Schnadt of Sumner, and Kathy (Clell) Howard, also of Sumner; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
            Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, who died January 28, 2009; one son, Lyle, who died in 2002; her parents; two brothers, Arlin and Willard Knief; and four sisters, Alieta Richmann; Elda Steege; Lauretta Potratz; and Darlene Thul.
            Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church (Buck Creek), rural Sumner, Iowa conducted by Pastor Sandra Burroughs. Internment will be at the church cemetery, rural Sumner. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009 at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and one hour preceding services at the church on Tuesday

Kathy, Clell and family - We are sorry to read of loss of your parents. We enjoyed visiting with them when they came in it office. Your Dad always had some interesting history to tell us and your Mother was such a nice lady. Please accept our sympathy.
