Dear Diane and the entire Troutman family,

I'm sorry to hear of Joe's passing. Being a close friend of Amy & Todd's, I have some good memories of Joe while you lived in Sumner. He always seemed to have a smile on his face. I always secretly wondered if he truely was Santa Claus! I know I haven't seen you in years, but looking at the photo on this website shows me he hadn't changed. Remember the good times and always tell the stories over and over, so other generations will know him too. My thoughts are with all of you!

Dear Diane, Amy, Todd, Meg, Katy, Jill, Dirk, and Josh,

I was so sorry and sad to hear of Joe's passing. In the past 24 hours I have thought of so many happy memories of times spent at the farm in Sumner. As a "city kid" I loved the opportunities to play in the hay mow, camp out in the back yard, build the best ever snow fort, snowmobile, and learn about animals from Joe. I always remember him with a smile and a hearty laugh-as I read others' comparison to Santa, that rings true for me, too.

I'm not sure you know that your family baby naming contest when Josh was to be born was my inspiration for the same kind of contest in my children's novel that was published 10 years ago. I was so intrigued with the idea and remember wishing my mom would have another baby so we could do the same thing, but she wouldn't cooperate. Today children who read my book always ask me questions about that–it's still intriguing even more than 30 years later. In my book, the main character, Sara Burnett, wins the contest and gets to name her new sister. As I was writing I was giving "author talks" to students, and one boy suggested I name the baby Catherine Elizabeth. What he didn't know was that was my own daughter's name, and on his suggestion I named the baby just that.

I will continue to keep your whole family in my prayers. A friend posted this verse this week, which feels like one I will be holding on to:

Psalm 116:7 "Be at rest, O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you."

With love and prayers, Ann

My favorite memory of Joe is listening to him in adult sunday school class, especially when he and Cal Milnes had a discussion. Their knowledge and understanding of God and the Bible inspired me to learn more and enhance my faith. Joe talked about God being a jealous God, but today we are the ones who are jealous. His wisdom will be missed.

Diane, Jill, Meg and the entire Troutman family, we extend our sympathy to you and will keep you in our prayers.

Dear Dianne, My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I was so saddened to hear of Joe's death. I enjoyed the reunion on the 50th from high school in Algona. There sat our class president, and still the warm person he always was, but there was a peace about him of a man of deep religious conviction. It was a pleasure to see. It was so good seeing the both of you and I know that this year is your 55th reunion, I believe in October, Ours will be next year and what a big gap that will be, not having Joe with us. May God be with you at this time Sending lots of love Shirley Lowman Siggers Seal Beach, California 90740
